Summary of Dutch travel documents

Dutch travel documents are produced, and the data are entered, in a central place in the Netherlands. These data are entered on the synthetic holder page by means of laser engraving. Since 26 August 2006 the synthetic holder page has incorporated a chip. The chip contains the data which are also visible on the holder page. However, the photograph in the chip is stored in colour, while the photograph on the holder page is visible in black and white. The reason for this is that laser engraving is a technique which enters the data only in black and white on the synthetic holder page, while the digital colour photograph can be stored in the chip.
